Christchurch, April 13,

Edward Brt-wn, formerly m snug r < f Mount Thomas station, committed sni cido by shooting himself at tho Cam this afternoon.

William Pinching, formerly chemist at Kaiapoi, died in the lock-up at Waiau last evening, He was arrested at four o’clock on a charge of obtaining money by false pretences. His wife went with a constable to sea him and found him unconscious and making a gurgling noise. He never recovered consciousness, dying at 5.30, He ia supposed to have committed suicide.

On Friday evening Mrs Mary Jane Garnett, wife of Mr Jonathan Garnett, carrier, residing in Regent street, \V oolston, Christchurch, died somewhat suddenly, She went about her househo'd as usual during the day, but was tak<m ill during the afternoon, ano’ when Mr Garnett came homo at half-past five o’clock from his work at Messrs Lightband and Aliena's' tannery, he found het lying on a sofa, and complaining of pains in her head. Shortly afterwards Mrs Garnett began to breathe heavily, and Mr Garnett went and fetched Or Hunt, but when that gentleman arrived she was dead. She was about twentyseven years of age, mid leaves two young children. At the inquest it w<s shown that death resulted from syncope of the heart. Dunedin, April 18. David Cutter, a blacksmith, 40 years of age, living at South Dunedin, attempted suicide by shooting himself with a revolver. Ho had been drinking heavily lately. There is little likelihood of his recovery.
