CHRISTCHURCH COEN EXCHANGE

The Corn Eichai ge reports for the week ending Friday evening, the 12th inst.: —

A steady business has been transacted during the week in both wheat and oats. The former has well maintained the previous week’s values, especially tuscan, which is in better demand than the short berried kinds. Oats have showed a slight upward tendency, with considerable sales. Barley has large quantities of medium kinds offering, which, however, are much neglected at the moment. Prime malting is scarce, and commands full rates. Beans are more enquired after, but peas are neglected, The following are our quotations for the week:—

Wheat-Prime tuscan, 4s to 4s Id; pearl, 3s 10d; hunters, 3s 9d to 3s 10d; broken, 2s 6d to 3d. Oats Prime milling, 2s lOd to 2s lid; short stout feed, 2s 8d to 2s 9d; long sorts, 2s 6d to 2a Sd. Barley —Prime malting, 3s 9d to 3s lOd; medium, 3s to 3s 6d; feed, 2a 6d to 2s 9d.

Beans—Good enquiry at 8s 3d to 3s 4d.

? Peas—Prussian blues quiet at 3s 8d to 3s 9d; feed sorts, 3s to 3s 2d. Grass Seed—A good demand for machine dressed at 3s 6d to 3s 9d; farmers’ parcels, however, are not so eagerly sought after at 2s Gd to 3s. Cocksfoot neglected at 2id to 2fd. Potatoes Kidneys are selling at £3 to £3 5s at country stations; derwents—forward delivery are quoted at £4, f.0.b., sacks in.

Hairy Produce—Buttermakers are holding hack for lOd, but Sydney market at present does not warrant such figures, consequently business is restricted. Cheese is dull at 3|d to 4-Jd.

The above prices are those paid to farmers for delivery f.0.b., sacks extra. CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKETS. At the Addington Yards on Wednesday large entries of stock yarded, Pat Cattle A moderate entry chiefly very good quality; demand slack. Steers sold at from £5 10s to £6 15s; heifers at from £3 12a 6d to £5 2s 6d, being at from 15s to 17s 6d per 1001 b as per quality. Dairy Cattle—Good cows in full profit sold at from £6 to £10; second quality, £3 to £4.

Yeal Calves—Prime sorts sold at from 18s to 265; medium, 8s to 12s.

Pat Sheep A full market, the quality on the .whole being something above the average. Prime crossbred wethers sold at fromlos3d to 14s sd; lighter weights, 8s 6d to 9s 9d • ewes sold at from 6s 3d to 10s 8d and 13s 2d; merino wethers at from 5s 6d to 7s Bd, being at from 1-id to about 2d per lb, according to the quality.— Messrs Miles and Go. sold for the Orari Estate, 70 crossbred ewes at 9s. —The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Company again topped the market with a line of sheep from the Eiverslea Estate (per Mr A. M. Clark), which sold as follows: —33 three-quarter-bred wethers at 14s sd, 38 do’ at 13s 10d, 32 half-bred do at 13s 9d 33 three-quarter-bred do at 13s 7d 33 do at 13s 3d. The ewes from the’ same estate also topped quotations in their class, making 13s 2d and 12s 9d. Store Sheep—Crossbred ewes and wethers, mixed, at from 6s 9d to 8s 3d. crossbred ewes, 4s 3d to 7 s 9d, Pat Lambs—Very prime lambs sold up to 11s 6d; others from 6s 3d to 6s 9d.

Pigs—A large entry, a good number of baconors being on offer. Baconers sold at from 35s to 47s 6d, fully late rates; porkers, 21s to 28s, being close ou 4d per lb; stores at from 8s 6d to 16a. DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS. The following is the report for the week ending Wednesday:— Wheat —Supplies during the week have been coming forward freely, but the demand has been very dull, millers and others holding off in anticipation of a fall in values. Sellers are asking for prime tuscan 4s 3d to 4s sd, but this is only nominal, and only small lots wanted for immediate use are changing hands at these prices. Any large lines could not at present be moved off at over 4s, with a corresponding reduction for velvet and red straw. Fowls’ wheat is in demand. Quotations: Prime tuscan in small lots 4s 3d to 4s sd; velvet and red straw, 4s to 4s 2d; medium, 3s 9d; fowl feed, 2s 6d to 3s 6d, Oats are now coming forward freely, but the demand has been slack. Prime milling samples have been selling at 2s 8d to 2s B|d; bright short feed, 2s to 2s 7id; medium, 2s 5d to 2s Gd.

Barley is dull of sale. Quotations; Eor prime malting, 3s 8d to 8s 9d ; medium, 3s 3d to 3s Gd.

Ryegrass Seed —There is a steady demand for clean undressed samples at from 2s 6d to 2s 9d ; dressed, 8s 9d to 4s. Cocksfoot, 2|d to 3-£d.

Potatoes Supplies are coming forward freely, and are in excess of requirements. Northern derwents, £4 to £4 2s (id; southern, £2 17s 6d to £4.

Pigs—Best dairy fed up to 1801 b, 4d; hams, 9d; in cloth rolls, 6id ; flitches, scarce. Onions —£10 to £ll,

Chaff —Well cut and riddled, £4; medium sorts, £3 10s to £3 15s v

Straw Oaten and wheaten, 40a* Hay Oaten, clover, and ryegrass, Gss. Carrots--£2.

Butter —Prime salt at lOd net (kegs extra); dairy factory, Is 2d per lb. Eggs are getting scarcer. Honey —4d to 4£d for best extracted.

Cheese—Best Akaroa, sd; loaves, s|d; factory, 6l?d; loaves, 6|d.

Sheepskins At the usual weekly sales on Monday all lots were well competed for, and realising for dry skint Is 6d to 6s; pelts and lambskins, Is 6d to 3s.

Hides are in full supply, and prices are slightly easier, Inferior, Id to 2d; light, 2d to 2fd; medium and heavy, 2fd to 3£d per lb. Tallow There is a fair demand, with no accumulation of stocks, at for prime mutton, 20s to 21s 6d; medium, 16s to 18s; inferior, 13s to 15s, DUNEDIN STOCK MARKET. At the Burnside Tarda on Wednesday the following business was transacted ;

Pat Cattle—l 69 head forward, the quality being medium to prime. Prices showed a further decline on last week’s rates; several of the best pens not reaching owners’ limits were turned out. Bullocks sold at £9 7s 6d to £5; cows and heifers sold at £5 15s to £3 15s.—Wright, Stephenson and Co. sold for Mr James Guild (Trevenna), 6 prime bullocks at from £9 7s 6d to £7 10s.—The Farmers’ Agency Company sold for the same vendor, 6 prime bullocks at £8 to £7 10s.

Pat Calves—B extra prime sold at from £ll9s to 17s each.

Pat Sheep—2ls3 were penned, of which 235 were merinos, the balance being fair to good crossbreds. Sheep suitable for freezing sold at about equal to last week’s prices, but for other lots a decline of about Is 6d per head had to be submitted to. Crossbred wethers sold up to 13s 6d; do ewes, 11s 6d ; merino ewes, 5s 8d to 6s.—Wright, Stephenson and Co. sold for Mr Andrew Grant (Willowbank), 75 merino ewes at 5s 9d to 6s, and Donald Eeid sold for the same vendor 64 merino ewes at 6a.

Pat Lambs There were a few pens suitable for freezing, which sold up to Ss 6d per head, the balance being disposed of at about store prices.

Pigs—lls yarded, for which there was brisk competition. Suckers sold at from 8s to 14s; stores, 15s to 25 5. porkers, 30s to 40s; bacon pigs, 45s to 575. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sydney, April 11.

Potatoes, New Zealand, £4 10s to £5 15a; Tasmanian, £5 to £5 6s. Onions, Yictorian, £l2 to £l3; New Zealand, £l3 to £l4 Maize is easy at 3s to 3s 3d. Oats, heavy feed, 3s to 3s Id ; bright milling, 8s 3d to 3s 4d; tartariau seed, 3s 6d. Bran is easy at la Id. The pollard market is quiet, but the price remains firm at Is 3d. Wheat, chick feed, 3s 8d to 4s; New Zealand milling, 4s 9d to ss. Shipments from New Zealand are weakening the market to some extent. Cheese is plentiful; local-made, 6d to 7d ; New Zealand, 7d to 7|d. Bacon, local cured, 9d to 9|d; New Zealand, 9|d to lOd, Hams, dull, lOd to Is. There is a plentiful supply of localmade. Butter, factory-made, Is 4d to Is 6d; separator-made, Is 3d to Is 4d; dairy-made, Is to Is 2d; imported butter, separator-made, Is to Is 2d; dairy-made, Is. Melbourne. April 11.

The wheat market is easier at 5s 7|d to 5s 8d for milling sorts. Plour is quiet; stone-made, £lO for second brands, £l2 for good. Oats for seed are in demand at 4s Id to 4s sd; stout feed, 3s lOd to 3s lid. Barley, Cape, 3s 4d to 3s 6d; English, ss. Bran, Is 2d to Is 3d. Mauritius sugar, whites, £25; yellows, £22. Adelaide, April 11. Wheat, ss; for farmers’lots, 4s lOd. Flour, roller-made £l2 ss, stonemade £ll. Bran, Is 3d. Pollard, ls4£d. Oats, 4s to 4s 3d, Corusacks, 4s 6d. Potatoes, Circular Heads, £7. ENGLISH MARKETS. London, April 10. The wool sales are very animated. The series will close on May 4th. The American visible supply of wheat is estimated to-day at 28,750,000 bushels.

The quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,856,000 quarters, and for the Centinent 350,000 quarters.

The English wheat market is depressed and the American is declining. The tone of the latter is weak. April 11.

New Zealand wheat is firmer, and frozen mutton is now quoted at 4id per pound. Leather, best sides, to lOd.

The wool sales to-day bad to be postponed owing to the heavy fog which prevailed in the city.
