A young woman named Kate Brewer, a domestic servant at Wellington, 'was terribly scorched about the back and Bliowlders, owieg to her clothes catching fire. At Ihe Supreme Court, Invorcargill, yesterday morning, the Jury in the case of Jas. Frew, cha'ged with rnpe on a young wirlj were discharged, having boen unable to agree after being locked up all night. Afresh jury was empanelled, and Frew was acquitted. Tlxb criminal Ritlmgs of ihe Supreme Court at Nelson begun yesterday before Mr Justice Bichmoud. There were only two cases. J»e. Watson, for larceny, was «eutoi.ced to one year's hard labor. The Judge said the crime was Iku roeult of drink and gambling. A true bill was found against Kobert Campbell, charged with unnatural offeuce.
