At the Supreme Court, Edwin Lewis, an old man, pleaded guilty of indecent assault on a child 12 years old. Prisoner was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment Thomas A. Lyons was convicted of larceny as a bailee, and sentenced to 12 mouths’ imprisonment with hard labor. James Alsford was acquitted on a charge of housebreaking. Christchurch, April 3, The Ripa Island murder case lasted till five minutes past 8 this evening, whan McMunua was acquitted, on the ground of insanity. The Supreme Court was occupied all day hearing evidence for the prosecution in the case wherein John Carter, A. C. W. Harrison, and Thomas Dinard, were charged with conspiring to falsely accuse John Godfrey Cook of money by false pretences ab Kaikoura. The defence will be heard to-morrow.
