A petition is boing signed by residents near Addington Gaol protesting against its transformation into a ciiminiil lunatic asylum. There is considerable agitation on the subject. The chief gaoler and matron have received notice that their Hsrvices will bo dispensed with on April 30th.
The agricultural statistics for the counties of Waipa and Waikato shott that the area of land under wheat has been increased by one-half more than that oE last year. In the case of oats the average has been nearly doubled, and there is also an increase in the land sown in potatoes and turnips, and in the number of orchards. A return from Raglan county shows a similar improvement.
