GERALDINE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The usual monthly meeting of this committee was held in the schoolhouse on Wednesday evening last. Present—Messrs W. S. Maslin (chairman), Jas. Riordan, 0. JS. Sherratt, J. W. Pye, and Geo. Tayler. MINUTES, The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. A Jetter was received from the Board of Education, enclosing one from the head master, in which the latter applied for six months' leave of absence to allow him to attend the Otago University for the purpose of sitting for the Bachelor of Science examination.—The letter should have been forwarded through the committee, hence its return to them.— Mr Aitken also wrote re the same, stating that the forwarding of the application direct to the board had owing to his not being aware it should go through the committee. The application also stated that Mr Aitken would find a locum tenens during his absence. —It was decided to grant the application, subject to the locum tenens being approved of by the committee and tin} Board of Educaion. HEAD MASTER'S EEPOBT. The master's report showed the average attendance for the past four weeks to have been 222, with 269 on the roll. This was considered satisfactory. The report, also mentioned that the pump had run dry, and several small items in connection with the building required attending to. Messrs Sherratt, Taylor, and the chairman were appointed a committee to carry out the necessary repairs, blbo to have the windows in the infants' room frosted, the mistress having applied for blinds to keep out the to» bright glare of the sun. TISITOEB. The visitors for the past month reported the school to be working satisfactorily. Messrs Pye and Mundell were appointed visitors for the month, and the committee adjourned.
