He is said to have forged a promissory noto for £2O, and was remanded. "- The steamer Omapere, which sailed trom Auokland for Weßtporfc on Wednesday, took 70 workmen to.be employed on Wilkie Bros, and Wilson's contract, respecting which a labour difficulty at present prevails. A native meeting attended by 800 natives and several Bottlers was opened at ryaitangi, Bay of Islands, on Wednesday. Sir F. Wnit&ker attended on behalf of the Government. Consideration of the questions of the Wangarei, or Poriti land dispute, and the imposition of a dog tax was deferred till the forthcoming meeting at Orake. No definite business was transacted.
