LAWN TENNIS.

A friendly match between eight members of the Geraldine Lawn Tennis Club and eight from the Temuka Club took place on the Geraldine Courts on Saturday last. Tho weather was execrable for tennis, a strong gusty nor’-wester blowing the whole of the time. Notwithstanding this a very largo number of ladies visited the courts to witness the match, which had been looked forward to with interest for some time past. The courts were in anything but good order, as being of grass the dry weather has not by any means improved them. The Temuka men proved the winners by three contests to one. During tho afternoon tea was handen round, and was apparently much appreciated, especially by the players. At the conclusion of the match the Temuka men were the guests of the Geraldine players at the Geraldine Hotel, where a cold collation was served by host R. Taylor, and was done full justice to. A number of songs were sung and complimentary speeches made, tho company separating at an early hour after spending a very pleasant evening. The following are tbe results of the match: —

J. L. Flint and R. Pinckney, Temuka, beat F. Fish and P. Wilson Smith, Geraldine, 5- 6-5, 6-2. E. Price and A. B. Temple, Geraldine, beat Dignan and W. Mendelson, Temuka, 6—4, 6-

B. Cutfcon and L. Thruston, Temuka, beat H. W. Moore and A. E. Ham kins, Geraldine, 6-2, 6- 5. E. LeOron and Denald, Tomuka, beat B. &. Macdonald and J. Cunningham, Geraldine, 6—4,6—5.
