ATTEMPTED DOUBLE MURDER.
Melbourne, February 12. A deliberate attempt at double murder was made at Campbell's, near Castlemaine, by a young man named James Fawke9. He entered the residence of John Rogers, with two sixchambered revolvers and a hammerheaded tomahawk. He fired at .Rogers and the shot struck him in the throat. Fawkes then ran away, and meeting a young man named Hosking, fired at him, the bullet striking him on the right Bide of the mouth. Fawkes was afterwards arrested. The prisoner, who said he had previously threatened to murder Rogers, and intended yet to kill him, was taken to the Castlemaine lockup and charged with shooting with iutent to murder. Rogers and Hosking were examined by the resident surgeon, who found their wounds were, fortunately, not serious. The prisoner bad a quantity of ammunition in his possession when arrested, lie is a nephew of Rogers, who is at a loss to know why he should feel such hatred towards him.
