MEETING OF CREDITORS.

A meeting of the creditors of David 3 Leach, butcher, was held in. the E.M. [ Court, Temuka, yesterday. About ten creditors were present. The debtor was represented by Mr Eayt mond. The Deputy Assignee, Mr Beswick, presided. The statement | showed the liabilities to b© £222 8s 9d, and the assets £IOB 15s Id. In reply to the Deputy Assignee the debtor said he had been carrying on business as a butcher eleven months. Had been making bad debts, and had not sufficient money to go on with. His wife was under the care of the doctors for some months. Started without capital. Had been pressed by Simon Norton, who obtained judgment. After that called a meeting of creditors, hut nothing was arranged at it, and the meeting adjourned. No arrangement was come to at the adjourned meeting. Then the landlord, Mr Quinn, distrained • for rent, A petition was presented by several creditors to adjudicate him a bankrupt. To this he gave no opposition, and instructed his solicitor to consent to it. If given a week he would, he thought, get friends who would make an offer for the estate. The offer would be 5s in the £. All moneys received by him since the adjourned meeting had been entered in his books. The dates had also been given- Had not kept a i cash book. Only paid Mr Meyer £1 ! since the meeting of creditors on the i 29th January, besides paying Mr . Quinn for rent. Paid Dunford he ] thought £1 just after the meeting or < before it. a cheque-book. Kept his account in the Bank of New South Wales, Temuka. There was no book to show what he received and paid away whilst he was in business. Left no skins for sale in Timaru, Was doing nothing now, except working for Mr Daily. Had a lease of 21 acres at £1 per acre.. Had land from the Maoris, but sold it 10 months ago. Got £lO for it. There was no crop on it then.— On the motion of Mr Aspinall, seconded by Mr Quinn, it was resolved—“ That the meeting stand adjourned for a week, in order that they debtor may furnish the deputy ajSh

signee with a statement of moneys received by him since 29th January, and the disbursements thereof, and also in order that the debtor may interview his friends as to making an offer for the estate.” On the motion of Mr Aspinall, seconded by Mr Brown, it was agreed unanimously—- “ That the deputy assignee be allowed payment for any clerical work necessary in the estate.” The meeting then adjourned for a week.
