GERALDINE PUBLIC SPORTS.

The annual general meeting of those interested in the St. Patrick’s Day Sports at Geraldine was held in the Geraldine Hotel on Friday evening last. A large number of people turned up, and Mr E. H. Pearpoint was voted to the chair. The balance-sheet for the last year was read and unanimously adopted. It showed that they had began the year with a credit-balance of £34 odd, the total receipts being £99 7s Id, and a balance of £6 Is 5d was now in hand. The Chairman, in refering to the last sports meeting, considered that it had been a great success, and had fully come up to the Committee’s expectations. One thing, however, was unsatisfactory, and that was the small amount of the subscriptions, the sum, £6 16s, being far less than what the Committee expected. There would not be so much expense attending the *next sports’ meeting, so they might reasonably expect to have a larger balance in hand at their next annual meeting, provided members were prompt in paying up their subscriptions. Mr Cunningham moved, Mr Mundell seconded, and it was carried—- “ That it be a recommendation to the new Committee to strike out the bayonet competition and tug-of-war.” Mr Cunningham thought it was very objectionable to have post entries, as often would-be competitors refused to enter when they knew that a good man had entered. He therefore would suggest that the nominations for all events should close on the same day. This, and also the question of increasing the nomination money, was left to the incoming Committee to deal with. The election of officers and committee resulted as follows .'—President, Mr E. H. Pearpoint; Vice-President and Treasurer, Mr J. Cunningham; [Secretary, Mr A. Fisher; Committee, Messrs J. Mundell, E. Taylor, T. Markham, J. Turner, F. Wilson Smith,

J. W. Pye, D. Macdonald, B. E. Macdonald, A. White, and N. Dunlop. A subscription list was then opened in the room, and £ll 16s was promised, and after a vote of thanks to the Chairman the meeting terminated. Committee Meeting. A meeting of the new Committee was afterwards held, Mr E. H. Pearpoint (President) occupying the chair. The minutes of the last Committee meeting were read and comfirmed, and the following stewards, judges, etc., were appointed. Stewards—Messrs Dunlop, Turner, Markham, Ward, Pye, Spillane, Mundell, .LawsomJPT Wilson Smith, A. White, 0/ E. Sherratt, W. Shiers, D. Macdonald, and B. E. Macdonald. Judges— General Sports: Walking and Eunning, Mr R. H. Pearpoint; Jumping, Mr J. Cunningham; Tossing the Caber and Throwing the Hammer, Messrs M. Connolly and H. Dunlop; Dancing, Messrs M, Spillane and K. Brophy. Starter —Mr W. E. D. Lawson. Handicapper —Mr T. McAuliffe.

The programme was then gone through, and prize vnoneys to the amount of £56 17s 6d were voted. The Committee resolved not to have any post entries; all entries to close on the 4th March, handicaps to be delared on 12th of March.

. Messrs Pearpoint and Cunningham were appointed to arrange about getting the services of the band, and the meeting then closed.
