ANGLICAN GENERAL SYNOD.

Dunedin. Feb. 14, At the Anglican General Synod to-day a select committee was appointed to consider the canon in reference to appointing bishops, with a view of determining the expediency of amending it. Leave was given to bring in a bill to amend clause 5 to do away with the necessity of churchwardens being residents within the parish. The bill was read a first time : also a bill to make provision for filling up casual vacancies in vestries, and defining the dates of parish meetings. A motion was passed that it is desirable that provision should ,be made to meet the case of a bishop who may be incapacitated by lunacy. Bishop Selwyn,, in moving the motion, pointed out the difficulty which bad arisen in New South \V ales, where the Bishop of Newcastle was insane, and neither a successor or cosidjutor could be appointed.
