CRICKET.

GERALDINE T. TIMARU. < A team from the Geraldine Cricket Club visited Timaru on Thursday last for the purpose of trying conclusions in a friendly game of cricket with a team from the Timaru Club. The Geraldine men travelled by road in a four-in-band drag, driven by Bob Scott, reaching Timaru about half-past eleven. Play started about 12,33 p.m. The day was beautifully fine, and a goodly number of spectators were attracted to the S.C.a.A.C. grounds, where the match took place. The ground was in excellent condition, the pitch being all that could be wished. Two of the leading men of the Geraldine team were absent, and their places had to be filled by substitutes. The fielding of both teams was good, that of Geraldine being especially so, not a catch being missed. No less than six of their opponents were caught out. Geraldine put together 55 for their first innings, and Timaru 90, In their second innings Geraldine got 81 in a short time for the loss of seven wickets. The Geraldine men were the first to bat, H, Moore and Mendelson facing the bowling of Hughes and Rothwell. Moore put together 10 before being disposed of, and Mendelson was given out l.b.w. when he had knocked up 13. Macdonald and Fish were disposed of for nought and a single respectively. F, Moore came next, and changed the condition of things by making a°decided stand. This player earned his bat out with 21 opposite his name. W. M. Moore was bowled by Rothwell without adding to the score, as were also Pearpoint and McFarlane. R. Temple put up 3, and then had to retire, being bowled by Hughes. F. ‘Wilson Smith had put together four when he played at a ball which appeared to be very much to leg. He missed it, however, and the ball striking his leg he was given out l.b.w. to the surprise of a good many. On Timaru going to the wickets C. T. H. Perry and O. Jefferson made a prolonged stand, runs coming in ones and twos till 27 had been put together. The former was caught by H. Moore, and the latter by Wilson Smith, o. A. C. Perry and Hughea knocked up 2 and 7 respectively, when they were also caught out by W. Moore and Temple. Rothwell was similarly disposed of by Wilson Smith for 10, and then Fraser’s wicket went down to Pearpoint for 7. Bristol added 2 before being caught by Fish, and Pearpoint sent Mullins, Malcolmson, and Robertson to the pavillion for 10, 2, and 0 respectively. Archer, the not out man, added 7to the total. The Geraldine men followed on, but were unable to make a stand till Messrs H. W. and W. M. Moore got together. The former by some excellent cricket combined with hard hitting knocked up no less than 40, before being caught by Bristol. Three of his hits were for threes and one for four, while nine were doubles. W. Moore added fifteen to the total before being caught by Robertson. Pearpoint and Wilson Smith were partners when time wos called, the former having 12, and the Utter 4 to his credit. The 1 following are the scores ;
