COLLISION AND LOSS OF LIFE.
London, February 3, The steamer Nereid, of Newcastle, came into collision off Dungeness with the ship Killochau, which loft Lyttelton for London oo October 20ib. The force of tho shock was so great that both vessels were badly injured and sank within four minutes. In all twentyfour persons lost their lives, seventeen of them belonging to the Killochan. The follow!ig members of the orew of the Killochan are known to be saved ; Messrs Day and Smith, mates of the vessel, seamen Mclvor, E. Newen, Parnis, Anderson, Caddy, and Brown, The survivors were rescued by a passing lug. Auckland, February 4. Tin* Kilochan’s cargo is insured bore as follows -New Zealand and Union, £3OOO each ; Commercial Union, £2OOO ; Canton Union of Canton, National Australian, General Chin# Tracers, and London and Provincial, £IOOO each ; and Victoria, £525.
