Baldwin made a successful balcon ascent and parachute descent at Auckland on Monday. A meeting of the Oamaru Hospital Trustees was held on Monday, when Dr Macgregor, inspector of hospitals, was present. Ho was asked an opinion on the vexed question of whether it was better to throw the hospital open to all surgeons in the district or not. In reply he said that he could not advise the hospital being thrown open unless a house surgeon were appointed, and that as the institution was well managed as things were, it was better to leave well alone. O livier, winner of the Champion Chess ’Tournament at Christchurch, was presented with a piece of plate on Tuesday evening.
