Sydney, February 5 . Private advices have been received here to the effect that tallow has fallen 80j per ton.
ENGLISH MARKETS.
London, February o. At Saturday’s sale there was a good attendance of foreign buyers, who competed briskly. Good and scoured crossbreds show an advance, chiefly for fine greasy. Prices are on a level with what ruled at the opening. Forty-one thousand bales have been sold. English wheat shows a downward tendency, but Continental is better, The American market is depressed. For Australian wheat (new crop on the passage) sellers ask 38s 6d. Australian flour, 28s ; New Zealand do, 26s 6d. Colonial oats, 275. February 4. As the result of the recent auctions and accumulation of heavy stocks, tallow is declining. Best mutton is quoted at 32s 6d ; for beef quotations are merely nominal. At the wool sales crossbreds continue very firm, Good merinos are steady at last quotations. Medium sorts ore irregular. February 5. At the wool sales to-day the bidding was spirited, Hemp is quoted at from £37 5s to £37 10s, Messrs Da/gety and Co. have received the following telegram from their head office, dated London, 2nd inst,:—■ “Wool sales are active; competition brisk ; English and German representatives ore the principal operators. Pine and medium crossbreds show a rise of £d to per lb.”
