RATEPAYER'S COMPLAINTS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib,—-I see by your issue of Tuesday last that a correspondent signing himself "Ratepayer" waxes wroth over men and boys bathing in the Waihi river during the hot weather we are experiencing at present. The spot he refers to is the only place in the river where a decent swim can be obtained, and the nearest house is a quarter of a mile distant. Still, if grown up youths aad men bathe there in a nude state they should certainly be stopped. At the same time there can be no possible objection to persons bathing there in proper bathing dresses. If Ratepayer knows anything of New Brighton or Sumner he will know that both men and women bathe in these places in the open sea within a few feet of each other, while numbers watch them from the beach. Near the Geraldine pool the broom and gorse is growing to the height of four or five feet, and covers pretty well an acre of ground, so that there is ample shelter for undressing and dressing. With regard to your correspondent's remarks anent the main street of Geraldine being covered with loose stones I may remind him that at the last meeting of the Town Board it was decided to have these picked off, and since then the Board have had men engaged at the work; in fact, the work was being carried out when Ratepayer's letter appeared in print.—l am, etc., Anotheb Ratepayee.
