R. B. Mason and G. A. Meson, charged with obtaining £8 by means of valueless cheques, were committed for trial at Auckland on Thursday. A Wairaea farmer, who will have from 1000 to 1200 bushels of barley to sell this coming season, has been offered 4s per bushel for it. A number of pianos, valued at about £IOOO were inspected by the Customs at Auckland on Thursday, and a dispute has arisen as to the payment of the duty. There are two invoices, higher and lower, and the firm owning the instruments claim to pay on the lower invoice. That the Customs refuse to accede to, and have referred the matter to Wellington, ,
