CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE.
The following are the Corn Exchange quotations for the week endiag Friday, January 18th, 1889 ; Wheat—Prime tuscan milling has been placed at 3s lOd to 3s lid; pearl and hunters, at 3s 8d to 3s lOd; whole chick wheat 3s 3d; and broken wheat at 2s 9d to 3s. Oats Old parcels have been quitted at 2s lid to 3s, and new lines for prompt delivery at 2s 9d to 2s lOd; and 2s 6d to 2s 7d for forward delivery. These prices are for good stout feed. Barley—None offering. Beans are enquired for at 3s 3d, and blue peas at 3s to 3s 3d according to sample. Eyegrass seed has had an active demand at 2s 3d to 2s 6d for farmers’ lines, and machine-dressed at 3s 3d to 3s 6d. Cocksfoot is being offered freely at 3d for delivery next month, but buyers are holding off until samples of bulk are to hand. Dairy Produce—Butter: In addition to heavy shipments from New Zealand, we have been advised that the Sydney market is glutted with their own make, and prices for best quality New South Wales lOd per lb, with no inquiry for New Zealand. Prices, therefore, are nominal at 6d. Cheese is now being freely offered at reduced sales. We quote 4d to 4|d for prime. The above prices are those paid to farmers for delivery, f.0.b., sacks extra
AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sydney, January 17. j Maize is easier at 2a lOd to 3s lid. Oats, dull, 3s 6d to 4s. There is a strong supply. The bran market is steady at ll|d. Pollard, Is. Potatoes, declining, £9 to £ll. Onions, £ll to £l2. Butter, market glutted and unsaleable,6dto9d (nominal). Cheese, glutted, 5d to 7d. Bacon, Wheat, cbickfeed, 3a Gd, with an upward tendency; milling sorts, dull, 4s 9d to 4s lOd. Melboykite, Jan. 17. The grain market is generally quiet, wheat, 4s Bd. Flour, stone made, £lolos. Oats, Calcutta and tartarian, 4s 4d; stout, 4s 9d. Maize, 4s 3d. Bran, Is Id. Pollard, Is. Sugar, white, £23 per ton.
Adelaide, January 17. The wheat market is unchanged m prices. Flour, roller made, £1110s; stone made, £lO 15s. Bran, Is. Pollard, Is. Oats, 4s lOd. Barley malting, 5s 6d.
ENGLISH MARKETS.
London, January 16. The American visible supply of wheat is 36,500,000 bushels. The quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,352,000 quarters; for the Continent 36,000. The English wheat market has experienced a general decline of 6d per quarter. The Continental market is depressed and the American weak, with a declining tendency. The wheat market ia flat. An off coast cargo has been sold at from 39s 6d to 40a. Australian flour, ex store, is quoted at from 30a 6d to 31s. Australian meat is dull, and prices low. A slight decline is reported. Prime New Zealand mutton is quoted at 4d.
