THE WEATHER IN AUSTRALIA.

Sydney, January 14. Intense heat is being experienced all over New South Wales, the thermometer ranging from 105 to 124 in the shade. The crops at Qulgower have been abandoned, Bush fires have done much damage at Carcoar. where the grass has been mostly destroyed. A water famine is raging in the Walgetta district. Dams are drying up, and unless rain falls within three weeks the consequences will be terrible, both to man and beast. A man has been found dead at Cooroma station who had evidently succumbed to thirst. January 15. The heat and drought are again causing considerable anxiety throughout the colony. At Canawandra, in the Bathurst district, there is a great scarcity of water, which is being carted from a distance of eight miles to supply the wonts of the town. At Casino, on the Lichmoud river, New England district, the maize crops are beginning to wither, and millions of insects are attacking the stalks, The much dreaded blight is feared unless rain falls immediately. Intense heat is being experienced throughout the New England district, especially At Inverell. The prospect is again , becoming most serious for the agriculturists and runholders of the colony. A huge heat wave has swspt over the colony since Thursday, the thermometer having averaged 102 in the shade in Sydney. A slight rain is now falling in Sydney and tha southern districts. Brisbane, January 15. The drought is breaking up in many places.
