ASHBURTON WOOL SALES. At the second series of Ashburton wool sales on Monday nearly 2000 bales were catalogued. The sale lacked animation and prices were generally a half penny to a penny lower than/at the pvevvona sale. Merino, 7|d to 10id; halfbred, Bsd to 9?d; crossbred, 7i-d to 9Jd; hngwooi, 7dtoM.
ENGLISH MARKETS
London. January 13. Up to date 125,000 bales of wool have arrived for next series. Leather has experienced a general decline of id; basils an advance of id. The rabbit akin market is steady. Fine black-horse salt is quoted at 42s 6d. Business in forward wheat is inactive. Foreign arrivals are moderate, An off coast cargo sold at from 39s to 39s 6d. The English wheat market is firm, the continental inactive; the American market shows a general decline. Several Australian cargoes are awaiting sale. New Zealand long berried, 42s to 42s 6d; Australian, 42s 6d to 48s. New Zealand hemp, ,£36 15s to £37.
