Hyacinth w»a in port, having arrived on December 14th, She brought two shipwrecked crews, 15 men from the Gorman ship Hermann and eight from a Swedish barque. The vessels had been at Walden Island loading guano. On November 27th a heavy easterly galo set in and drove them both on land though strongly moored. The captain and mate and four hands of, the Virgo were drowned in the surf through the < boat upsetting. Both vessels became total wrecks shortly after | they struck the reef, but sufficient provisisons were got from the Hermann till the Hyacinth arrived on December 4th.
