Suakim, January 4. The enemy are harassing the pickets stationed outside the town. January 7. A deserter who has just arrived from Khartoum reports that Emin Bey is a prisoner there, and is being well treated, Osman Digna’s cavalry has suffered repulse. Deserters slate that Osman Digna is at Handoub with 1200 men, and that he has refused to yield to the advice to retire to Tokai. Deserters further state that Osman Digna recommenced offensive operations directly the British troops left. Cairo, January 7. The-Khedive intends to, entertain General Grenfell at a banquet in honor of his victory at Saukim. Berlin, January 7. Lieutenant Wiseman, who has been promoted to a captaincy, proceeds to Zanzibar in February to enrol troops for service in Africa,
