WINCHESTER JAM FACTORY.

I TO THE EDITOa. i Sia,—l saw a report of the Pro--1 visional Directors' meeting, held at Winchester on 31st December, in your Saturday’s issue, which stated ' that a few shareholders had applied for a refund of their deposit money under a misapprehension, there being no intention on the part of the Directors to change the original design. 1 What were shareholders requested to attend a meeting held in November last for ? At that meeting Mr E. A. Barker proposed to change the name to the “ Agricultural Produce Storing Company,” as he stated a jam factory was not wanted. Having acted as broker, I stated at that meeting that shareholders had applied for shares on the strength of a “Emit Preserving and Export Company, and to depart from that was too much like swindling them out of their money. Mr J. T. M. Hayhurst said the name could not legally be changed. However, we were in the minority, and Mr E. A. Barker’s proposal was carried. Their solicitor’s advice as to change of name was obtained, and it was found that the name could not be changed without the consent of each shareholder in writing. A meeting of Directors was called on 18 th December, when there were present Major Young (Chairman), Mr E. A. Barker, and myself. Major Young proposed, and Mr Barker, seconded—“ That the solicitors be instructed to proceed to float the company under original name.” I requested that they should wind up at once. Seeing they were determined to float the company lat once applied : for a refund, having lost faith.—l am j etc., John J. Ennis. 1,
