FIRST DAY. The annual sports gathering of the S.C. Caledonian Society commenced in Timaru on Tuesday last, and was moat successful. It is estimated that about 5000 persons attended, but the heat of the day considerably marred the enjoyment of those present. The following are the results Throwing 221 b Hammer (handicap). The day’s sports concluded with a 200 yards race for boys, which was won by E. Shappere. CONCERT. In the evening a concert was held, solos being contributed by Mrs A. J. Westmacott (Christchurch;, Misses Mang Hume (Dunedin), Inness (Invercargjjfl and F. A. Martin (Christchurth), Jas. Jaeo (Dunedin), Umbers (Dunedin), and Densem (Dunedin). Dances were given by Highlanders. The accompanist to the singers was Mr Sydney Wolff, and the overtures were played by the Timaru Orchestral Society. The theatre was crowded ia every part, and all the singers had to respond to encores, the applause being deafening, SECOND DAY. The weather yesterday was again fine, though very hot.
