Ministers saw several deputations at Christchurch yesterday. The Knights of Labor with Messrs Taylor, Joyce and Loughrey, M.H.lt.'s stated that a number of men, not professional unemployed, -wanted work. The Premier promised to see what could be done. The soft goods dealers pointed out anomalies in ,the customs tariff, and suggested a uniform charge often per cent on cottons, carpets, etc., and recommended the publication of a complete list of all goods imported by the trade with the duty on each specified. They did not object to Mr Shannon's appointment, but thought the expense thereof would not be recouped by the saying to the revenue resulting from his labors. The Premier pointed out that Mr Shannon's appointment was temporary. He promised to consider the deputation's suggestions.
