Sydney, December 17. &s far as tbe South and Central districts are concerned the drought has now broken up. ; A boy named Sheather was killed by lightning yesterday at'Taree, on the Manning river. At BalliV yesterday a man named Mulholland' was killed by lightning. The storm was experienced generally over the colony, and was of unusual ' severity. December 18. Accounts of Sunday's storm from the suburbs and ' country districts report heavy damage by'flood waters. The jrain will have the effect of bringing the igrasß on rapidly. 1 Official reports state' that the prospects of the back country are gloomy. ' Wiicannia district is suffering severely from drought, and it is described as practically a desert. Chaff is selling at £25 per ton. In some districts the crops were damaged by Sunday's storm. Beisbanb, December 18. Two more deaths have been caused by excessive heat at Croydon and Paterson, Queensland. Adelaide, December 17. The Government valuator, who has recently traverse! the whole colony, reports that the country is in a terrible condition, and that the season is the worst experienced for the past twentyfive years. In many districts rabbits have been completely exterminated for want of water. The kangaroos, he states, are remarkably scarce from the same cause.
