WOOL SALES
TIMARU. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report:—Our first sale of the season opened under favorable circumstanoes on Tuesday. There' was' -a' 'large attendance:: af buyers and vendors present. Biddings came with great spirit and prices showed a distinct advance of Id to on last year's opening rates. On careful inspection of the wool, the clip this year is generally sound, well grown, fairly light! and bright. The turnip fed flocks of course show the usual amount of earthiness and yolk, We catalogued 460 bales and 61 bags, and sold ! 416 bales and • all'"' the' bags". Greasy .half-b'red ranged from to lOfd, crossbred B|d to 9Jd, merino to B|d, pieces 6d to 7d, locks ,4c!. Mr M. Jonas reports an advance of from; Id to per lb on last year's opening prices and Messrs Gracie. .Maclean and Adam also report an i advance.
AUSTRALIAN MAEKBTB. . Sydney, December 18. The markets are dull, due principally to the approaching holidays. One feature is the large amount of imports,from. New Zealand. Since ! Friday no less than 12 sailing vessels and steamers arrived here laden with produce. The following are' latest quotations:—Maize has declined Id, and jis now 3s lid to 4s. _ Oats,.in consequence of heavy shipments from New' Zealand, are easier, best sorts selling at 4s 3d; milling, 4s 6d to 4s7d. Bran has declined to Is Id. At Melbourne and Adelaide wheat is dull,; prices ranging.,,:fr.om_4g T jsd to 4s 10d. The markets' are erratic and probably will be unsettled till after the new yaar. Melbotjene, December 18. Flour, roller makes, £11; stone makes, £lO 10s. Adelaide, December 18. Eoller flour, £l2; stone makes, £ll.
ENGLISH MARKETS. London, December 15. Australian wheat, ex warehouse, 445, business quietj New Zealand long berried, 43s 6d, business very restricted. The English wheat market shows a slight advance. -Continental also shows an upward tendency, but 'American is unchanged. For Australian new crop: :on passage sellers, are asking ;41s ,Bd, fbr New Zealand wheat 1 on passage ■ 41s. Colonial oats, fine quality,, command 255, colonial barley 455.
