DUNEDIN STOOK MARKET.
At the Burnside Yards on Wednesday the following business was trans-i acted:— Fat Cattle—There was a largo supply, 251 head being yarded. The hulk w»a prime quality. Bullocks sold at £5 2s 6d to £ll ss, for extra ; cows, £4 10a to £7 ss. Wright, Stephenson, and Co. sold for Mr James Guild (Trevenna), 6 bullocks from £8 12s 0d to £6 17s 6d ; for Mr James Johnston (South Canterbury), 7 steers at £7 10s. Reid, Maclean ami Co. sold for Mr W. Stewart (Orari), 7 bullocks from ? £7 10s to £6 10s; lor Waimato Estate, 12 prime cows from £7 2s 6d to £6 ss. Donald Reid and Co. sold for Mr James Guild (Tfevenria), 12 bullocks to £9 6".
Fat were penned, of which only about 100 were merinos, the rest crossbreds, mostly shorn, medium to good prime quality. The sales opened at about 2s 6d to 3s per head below list market rales, and continued to recede down to the finish, when a drop of quite 4s 6d to 6s per head on last fortnight’s sales has to be recorded. Best crossbred wethers in the wool brought 16s to 19s; ordinary, 13s to 15s 6d ; best do shorn, 14s 61 to 16s 9d ; others, 9s to 13s 6d ; ewes, in proportion ; merino wethers in the wool, to 13d 6d ; shorn, to 8s 9d. Reid, Maclean and Co. sold for Mr Andrew Grant (Temuka), 69 shorn crossbred owes and wethers from 12s 6d to 11s 6d. Donald Reid and Co. sold for Mr Andiew Grant, 2 pons crossbred ewes and we hers (shorn), to 12s 6d, Lambs—Bß 3 weie penned, Owing to a slight demand for (Xport competition was ft.iily active, and all disposed of at from 5s to lie.
Pigs—222 were penned, comprising all roits. buckets brought 11s to 15s; stor. s, 22s to 30s; porkers, 33s to 43a.; baconere, 45s to 62s fid.
AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sydney. December 5. Chaff is stlling at Wilcannia at £2O per ton, and oats at 10s per bushel. Reports from farming centres in the Albury district , indicate that the harvest will be belter than was expected under the circumstances. December 6. Wheat, locally grown, is selling at 5s 8d ; New Zealand wheal, 5s 4d lo 5s 64 for best samples; r chick, 4s to 4s 3d, .M liing oats, 4s 9d ; ordinary feed, 4a 3d to 4s 7d. There are no seed oats in the market. Maize is dull at from 4s to 4s 3d. New potatoes are bringing. £9; old kinds, £6 to £9. Bran, Is 3d to is 41. ■ Pollard, Is 6d. ; New Zealand butter, Is Id to Is 4d ; local, Is 6d to Is 9d. Cheese, 7d to : 9di . Bacon, locally cured, 6sd to 9£d. New Zealand hams, lid to Is. As the wheat harvesting proceeds the farmers generally find a full heavy ear, ,and it is possible that even with the short (straw the quality may after all prove satisfactory. [An estimated yield of eight I bushels to the acre has been hazarded. Wheat isjweaker, and4a 7|d is quoted for [milling sorts. ENGLISH MARKETS. London, December 4. The following are share quotations:— j Union S.S. Company, t .£l2 IDs; New: Zealand S.S, Company, £2; Shaw, Savill; and Company, £B. the English wheat market is.declining i and business weak. The Continental j ratrket is depressed, and the American is I also Changing for the worse. The aver-i age price of English wheat at country! markets is 81s Bd. The American visible; supply of wheat is 35,125,000dbu5h018. The quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is .2,440,000. quarters; for the Continent 625,000; quarters. At the wool sales to-day 12,000 bales: were sold. Dp-. 5. At the wool sales to-day a buoyant; tone prevailed. M"r’no advanced 10 per cent. Fine crossbreds were scarce, and s experienced a similar advance. Greasy; limbs, both coarse, and fine, soldatanj advance of £d to Id. All scoured wools' were in active demand, and prices were favorably affected by the general advance i in other,classes. The sales close on the; 15th. The present stock is small, and prospects are good..
