A STRANGE STORY.
Masterton, Nov. 19. Last evening the police were informed that the body of a boy 14 ..years of age named Haskell, boo of a painter, was lying drowned in Warngawa, five miles from here. Two constables took an express to bring back the body, and were shown a creek where a woman Alleged she had Been the body at 5.30, but after searching with lanterns till 11 p.m. no trace of the body could be found, and it is now thought that tbe report may be a hoax, as young Haskell has been iu the habit ot staying away from home. Fending the return of the police, the boys mother had a room laid out for the reception of the body; the undertaker sent for his chief carpenter to make the coffin, and a messenger was sent on two days' ride for the boy's father while tbe house was surrounded wilh weeping women and sympathising friends. Later. Youn£ Haskell has been found safe and sound, at a homestead.
