WINCHESTER ATHLETIC CLUB.

A meeting; of persons interested in holding athletic sports at Winchester j was held in the Wblseley Hotel on Saturday evening last. There was a fair attendance. Mr J. A. Young was voted to the chair. MINUTES. The chairman explained that owing to the sudden and lamented death of their late secretary, Mr Geo. Smith, the minutes of the last regular meeting had been mislaid. The minutes, however, of a special meeting held on June 30th were read and confirmed. BALANCE-SHEET. The balance-shtet, as submitted and adopted, showed a balance to credit of £7 Is, which was considered highly satisfactory. DATE OP BPOETS. It was decided to hold a sports gathering on Anniversary Day, the same as last year. ELECTION OP OFFICERS. The election of officers and com mittee then took place, and resulted as follows: — President, Mr A. E. Or. Rhodes; nee-presidents, Messrs W. Deßenzy and.J. A. Young; committee, Messrs H. E. Smith, W. Grimpaon, Gr. Stewart, T. Hart, W. Stewart, W. Brinkraan, A. Shallard, F. W. Shallard,: R. Smith, E. Wagstaff, W. Carston, and Haggard, with power to add to their numbers. TOTE OF THANKS. A very hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr J. A. Young for the interest he had taken in promoting the sports gathering. COMMITTEE MEETING. A meeting of the new committee was then held, when Mr J. A. Young was elected chairman and treasurer, and Mr W. Stewart, Jan., secretary. MISCELLANEOUS It was. decided to supply each of the committee with a subscription list, and to make .an early and strong canvass of the district for support. It was also decided to insert a preliminary notice of the sports at once in the Temuka Leadeb.

Messrs H. E Smith, F. W. Shallard, and T. Hart were appointed handicappers for the sports. The appointing of a judge and starter was left over for the present, and the meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the chairman.
