FLOODS IN THE NORTH.
Palmbbstoh Nobth, ifov. 12.
The fiercest storm of wind and rain ever experienced in the district ooonrred here on Saturday. The outlying districts were flooded for a considerable area, but the only serious damage reported is the loss of 600 sheep by Rushell, Tematai. The railway line at Jockeyville was washed away, and is still under water. Tho Manawatu river is in high flood, and overflowing on to adjacent property. Considerable damage has been done to shops in the square, Napibe, November 12.
The weather moderated on Saturday night. The rivers are flooded, but not-much damage is reported. Newly shorn iheep suffered and a large number died, but the losses to the farmers are amply compensated by the welcome rain.
From Poratigab.au it ia reported that a son of Mr Thos, Stewart is missing, He was seen trying to oroaj the river yesterday and was oarried down. He was unable to swim and little hopes are entertained of his safety. The Manapouri, steamer, bad a terrible passage from Wellington of twenty-lour hours. She landed passengers here but took cargo on. '
