Wenarata Piwi, sister of the celebrated Chief Mirimona Piwi, has died at Rjtorua, The body of Alfred Joe, the coloured man, who was drowned near Auckland with two companions about six weeks ago by the capsizing of a fisbing boat, has been recovered at Waiheki island.

The North Canterbury Actlimatisation Society, after considering the question of illegal sales of trout which sales are very common, decided to offer £5 reward for the conviction of any person offending. It is understood that a meeting of the creditors cf the old established firm of Hpnderson and McFarlane, Auckland, was held on Thursday. The liabilities were stated at £66,000 and the oeaeta at £44,000. The estate was assigned to three trustees on behalf of the creditors.

At a meeting of the Wellington Ministers' Association, a letter from the Christohurch Association was read, urging that signature* be secured to a petition to be presented to the British legislature against the African slave trade. It was felt that action would probably have been taken before any petition from New Zealand could be presented, and that the British Churches were likely to agitate with such energy and enthusiasm as to render a petition from these far off islands superfluous.

At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Bowing Association the following clubs were represented :—Canterbury Rowing Club, Napier Club, Nelson Club, Star Club (Welling'on), Wellington Olub, Union Club (Wanganui), Waoganui Club, Wakatu Club (Nelson). The report showed that all the principal rowing clubs in the colony, with the exception of the Auckland clubs (which have thair own association), had joined the Association,
