AUCTIONEER'S REPORT. Mr K. R, GuinnPHS (for the Naw Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limitt-d) reports for the week euiling Saturday, October 20th, as fo'lowv ; Washdyke yards- Cattle: The entries of both fat and stores hare been average ones. The price and demand for the former show a decided decline, and several pens of prime beef had to be withdrawn. We sold a. few head prime bullocks at £7 10s a piece. In stores the market is also depressed, and the bulk of the yarding did not find purchasers. We sold a small line of 18-months-old mixed cattle' at £2 per head. Sheep—During the past fortnight entries at these yards have been good, and a considerable amount of business transacted at current values. The demand for croesbreds in forward condition, and hoggets well wintered and grown still continues. On the 11th inst. we yarded 1306, and sold the following lots: —34 fat crossbredii at 15s 6d, 57 do do at 15s, 243 do do at 14s lOd. In the store pens we offered a line of 900 crossbred hoggets, and sold a run off of 400 at lis 4d; the balance have since 'been placed privately. On the 18th inst. w« disposed of 502 half-bred 4-tooth wethers in forward condition at 14s 3d. Sheepskins and wool—Wednesday's sale showed a full attendance of fell' mongers, and some large lines of both butchers' and country skins were brought forward, especially the latter. Yalues were on a par with last sale, though in some cases prices were very irregular. However, taking the sale all through, it passed off satisfactorily. Prices received were as follows : Best butchers' crossbreds, 5s 6d, 5s 9d, to 5s lid; medium, 4s 6d, 4s 9d, ss, to 5s 3d ; best merinos, 4s, 4s 6d, ss, to 5s 6d (the latter being obtained for an exceptionally good lot); crossbred country skins, per lb., s|d to 6d; do do merinos, 6d; mixed lots, from 2s to 4s 6d, according to size and quality. Privately; and by auction our Bales amounted to 2190 skins. Wool—l bale crossbred dead wool 7£d per lb, 2 bales trimmings (heavy) 2d. Wool in bags from 6d to6|d; locki 2d to 3£d per lb. , The supplies consist of light weights which are not in stroDg request, and difficulty is experienced in quitting at late rates. We have disposed of all ! on hand for shipment to Melbourne at a shads lens than late quotations. Fat —A steady demand .continues for all descriptions, especially well Baved country lots, which bring 9a 6d to 12s 6d per cwt. TIMARU MARKETS, Wheat :— Quotations are: Prime milling, relvet and Tuscan, 3s to 3s 7£d ; red chaff, 3s s&d to 3s 6f d; squareheads, 3s 4d ; whole fowl wheat (scarce), 2s 6d to 2s"9d; broken do, 2s 3d to 2s 6d. Oats Quotations are : Prime milling, 2s to 2s 2d ; good short feed, Is lOd to' 2s; heavy danish, Is lOd to la lid; fair average,. Is 9d to 10d, ENGLISH MARKEI'S. London, October 20. Tallow, best mutton, 29s to 29s 6d; best beef 28s. The stock on hand is 110,000 casks, The sugar market is flat. German is quoted at 31s 3d. Hides, 4d to 4|d, Iron, Gospel Oak brand, £l7 10s.
