TIMARU HARBOR BOARD.

The monthly meeting of this Board wns held on Wednesday. Present—Messrs Acton (Chairman), Morris, Wilson, Ross, Talbot, Gray, Manchester, and LeCren.

The Marine Department wrote asking that their hydrographer be furnished wjth all information about the port for insertion in,the proposed new ediiion of the Now Zealand Pilot.—lnformation to be suppliod. A copy of a Timaru paper containing a lett-r frem Captain Scott, captain of the Cairnsmore, testifying to the safety of the port was ordered to be sent to Lloyds. The Board went into Commifee on matters relating to the Shanr-Savill case. The Standing Committee, in their report, recommended that Messrs Perry aod .Perry's account should be paid.—After a discussion, the report was adopted. From eleven applicants, Mr Philp w.»e selected for the position of foreman carpenter. The Engineer reported that no random blocks had been lifted during the past month. The Bhingle had increased s ightly beside the breakwa'.er, and receded further south. The Tauiwha was launched from the slipon September 26ib, and wince then had been employed whenever possible in dredging boulders at the Moody wharf. In nine working days about 200 tons of large rocks had been lifted, some of them weighing-over four tons, together with about 100 tons of small boulders. The north mole was proceeding; satisfactorily. During stormy weather last month a heavy scour took place at the outer end, which had r< quired a U.ge additional quantity of atone to make up the increased height of work. The Haibor Master repbrted : the arrival of 2*2 steamers and 6 sailing vessels, of an aggregate registered tonoage of 9404 tons, and the departure of 21 steamers and 6 sailing vessels, of a total tonnage of 8714* for the month ending 30th September,lßßß. The moorings had bepn thoroughly overhauled by the p.s. Titan, and were now in good order. Accounts amounting to £1446 6s 2d were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned. ..'','.; i! . 7 ;
