THE WATER-RACE SCOOPS.
_ «r TO; THjE EDITOR. Sir, —I notice in your., issue .of the 18th a paragraph dealing with a new water-race scoop, manufactured py Mr Jamoa Findlay, to the order o'f Mr and which, is claimed to possess several important improvements, While in no|,,way detracting from the workmanship, 1 may say that the ecoop question; instead; of 'beihguj&t an improved "pattern, is sithply a moderate ithifatioiffof one; invented by myself, This class of scoop or plough ;I can fairly claim the credit of inventing, and the one I, have now in use has [stood the test" of in some 20 miles of Water-race. It has . satisfied both the Geraldine County Council’s engineers and myself, If is claimed fbr Mr Gregah’s 1 plough that it can be worked by six horses : as a matter of fact, nine have be,en yoked , in. it. Considering that this is the second scoop that has been maoufactured to’ Mr Gregan’s order for this, class of work, it does not say so much for it as your paragraph would * seem to infer is due. Would it not have bean better to have awaited a trial before improvements were talked of ?—I am, Jtc., W. Fletchke.
