The Dowager, Empress Viotoria| ;has written to Sir, Morrell Maokenzie, admitting that he had warned her early in the illness of the-l»te Emperor that's malignant growth might appear., Sir. Morrell Mackenzie'! book eon tains twenty-one plates, showing details of the larnyx and the'use of the canula. Sir M. MaokeiniW!deniea that he wounded 1 the, vocal chord in hia operations, and states that Dr. Gebhardt. was guilty of making a false accusation; against him, in asserting that this was so. All Sir , Morrell's German colleagues, including Dr Bergmann, admitted; he wai right in his treatment of the patient. Sir M, Blackeniie affirms that Dr Bergmann opened the traohea three millimetres to the right of the middle line when he used the canula, thus canting lots of tissue, intense disoomfort and exhaustion, Dr Mackenzie aoouses Dr Bergmann of wrongly diagnosing the secondary cancer of the lung, and! saya : —"The death-blow wai given to the Emperor on April 12th, through Bergmann'* tube making a false passage, thus inflaming the traohes, drawing the strength of the patient, and shortening his life by ten months. The Bmperor suffered no pain untill tracheotomy was performed. In oaßes of cancer on 1 per eentjfatal (sic) the voice was destroyed by the operation, and recurrence,of the disease was almost certain. jGebhardt's ;ruthless cauteniing of the Emperor's throat was unexampled ia the history of surgery, and was likely to make a benign oomplaint a malignant one. The British Medioal Journal publishes a facsimile of a letter written by the late Emperor Frederick containing the expression l " Bergmann illtreated me." London, Ootober|H, I Almoiithe whole of Sir Morrell MoKenzie's book was surreptitiously , given to the press, and the publishers are naturally very: much annoyed. They are taking steps to ditoover the authors of a Paris edition of the jwork. The New York Herald first published the prinoipal faots contained in the book. ! Dr Bergmann declares that the autopsy of the late Emperor Frederiok refuted the statements of Sir Morrell Mackenzie. Bkelin, Oct'ls. , Dr Bergmann has published a reply : to Sir Morrell Mackenzie's book, in which he calls the latter a liar, and accuses him ot being ignorant of pathology, which prevented a timely operation being performed. Oot. 16. Doctors Grebhardfc and Bergmann will sue Sir F. Morrell Maokeazie for libel. London, Oot. 15. Sir Morrell Mackenzie's book has been confiscated in Germany.
