INTERPROVINCIAL NEWS.
At the Invercargill Police Court on Monday John B. Vernon, Quarter-master of the Hauroto, was committed for trial on a charge or attempting to murder Norman Macdonald, Harbour-master at the Bluff, on the 6th September, by trjiog to throw hi in over the wharf. The accused, for whom Mr Solomon appeared, reserved hia defence. The evidence for the prosecution was conflicting. At Auckland, Mr Justice Williams declined to grant an order of discharge to J. W. Cotton, racehorse trainer, saying he did not think the Act aas meant to relieve parties who got into difficulties through gambling. In the Wellington Bankruptcy Court on Monday, Henry H. Travers, a clerk, applied for hia discbarge, which the creditors did not oppose. Mr Justice Richmond thought that bankrupt had been rash io mining speculations, aod withheld hie discharge for twelve months. The men engaged at work at the Ngakawau. mine, Westport, on Mbnday, declined to comroooco at the price agreed upon, vis., 8s per day, aod demanded 10s. The men are acting with the Denniaton Coil Miners' Uuioo.
