LABOUR TROUBLES.
London, October 6. A miner’s agent, speaking at a meeting of men in Derbyshire, said 300,000 colliers were prepared to go on strike, and it would be the greatest strike ever known, Sydney, October 9. Tbe employees of the Tramway Company have struck for increased pay, and the public are much inconvenienced owing to tbe tramway having stopped running. At a meeting to-day of mine masters it was decided to follow a policy of inactivity. It was, however, hinted that probably a number of foreign miners would be introduced, and tbe masters expressed their willingness to listen to any proposal the men on strike had to make, providing such proposal was made before the foreigners were introduced. The carpenters’ strike is not likely to assume tbe dimensions at first expected.
