The demaud is slacker, and pries are getting easier than they were. In stores there have not been very heavy entries, but we anticipate large numbers coming: forward during the next few weeks, which no doubt will command attention, as our pastures are advanced. Sheep : At these yards, and other fixtures, small yardings have been Ihe general rule. The spring beiug in this district a forward one, owners are not inclined to part with their surplus stock till after they have the wool off them. Fat sheep transactions were: Crossbreds of medium weight and quality, 13s Gd to 14s 3d ; merinos, fair mutton, lis 6d. Sheepskins—There was a large attendance of buyers at Wednesday's sale. A big proportion of our catalogue consisted of fallen merino skins ! from the Mackenzie, and, considering the awful winter that has been experienced in the back-country, the condition of the wool was better than anticipaled, and prices realised must be considered satisfactory—viz. • s|d to s|d per lb. Butchers' crossbreds of prime quality made 5s 9d to 5s lid ; good lines, 5s 3d, 5s 6d, to 5s 8d; inferior to medium, 4s Gd to 4s lOd ; merinos, 4s Gd to ss; country crossbred?, 2s up to 5s 6d, according to size and quality; factory crossbreds, 5a 9d lo Gs. Our sales privately and by auction amounted to 670 G skins. Hides The market remains inactive. We have sold 180 at the following quotations—viz.: GOlb and over, 3|d ; 501 bto 591 b, 3£d ; light and inferior, 2|d to 3d ; cut and slippy, 2d per lb. Tallow and Pat—The demand is good, and prices obtainable are:— Rough fat, 9s to 12s per cwt. (for j best) ; tallow, l|d to lfd per lb. TIMARO MARKETS. Wheat—Prime milling, velvet and tuscan, 3s 5d to 3s Gd; red chaff, 3s 4fl to 3s 5d ; equarehead, 3s 3d; whole fowl wheat, 2s 6d to 2s 9d ; broken do, 2s to 2s Gd. Oats—Prime milling, 2s to 2s 2d ; good short feed, Is 10d to 2s ; heavy danish, Is lOd to Is lid ; fair average, Is Otl to Is lOd. Prime milling and Canadians are in request. Barley—Any lots of prime milling offering can be placed at 3s 3d to 3s Gd on rail at Timaru. FNGLHII MARKSI'S. London, October 3. At the wool sales to-day 9000 bales were sold. Leather—Best sides, to lOd. Oct. 4. New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock has fallen from par to Hank of New Zealand shares are quoted at £lO. The decline in New Zealand stock is due to the Bank of New Zealand disclosures, which have depressed the market. Tallow is quiet—mutton, 28s to to 2Ss Gd ; beef, 27s to 27s Gd. Sugar is flat—German beet, 12s 9d. I Skins and hides are in fair demand ' —ox hides, 4^rl. Kauri gum —The market is flat. Wool —The recen 1 . advance is maintained for best merino combings aud mediums, and common scoured crossbreds. Other descriptions show a decline as compared with the July closing rates. The market is generally steadier. At to-day's wool sales 9000 bales of wool were sold. The present series clores on October 10th. One hundred New Zealand frozen bullocks have sold at £lO each. New Zealand frozen mutton is atSid ; Australian do, 4fd. Oct. 6. Wool is slightly easier, owing to the inferior selection offering. Continental buyers purchased about half the quantity on Friday, when 13,000 bales were sold. For to-day's sales 10,000 bales are catalogued. One hundred and thirty bales of Australian leather sold at decline on last quotations. Two hundred and fifty bales of basils sold at from r}d to T?d advance.
