INTERPROVINCIAL NEWS.
An old man named Richard William Carr, was committed for trial at Blenheim on Friday on a charge of obtaining money under false pretences. From the evidence it appeared that Carr gave another man named Reardon a bill at three months' for £2O for thre purchase of some goods, saying at the time that he had arranged with his son to endorse the bill. Beardon accepted the bill in good faith, but on his presenting the bill to his son for endorsement, the son refused to back it. The case is rather an extraordinary one, as Reardon sued Carr in the Resident Magistrate's Court scmo weeka ago for the recovery of the money, but th>i Resident Magistrate refused to hoar the caae, saying that it was an indictable offence. It was owing to this remark that a warrant was taken out and Carr arrested.
A death by accidental poisoning occurred at Petone, Wellington, on Friday morning. A young woman named Edith M*ria Sylces, who has been under medical treatment for some time, took spirits of salts in mistake for glycerine. Most acute suffering immediately ensued, and ths youug woman died shortly, after medical aid was summoned.
Last Thursday night William Mitchell, a sheep farmer in the Wairarapa distsici, was arrested on a charge of drunkenness. He was placed in a cell, and at five o'clock next morning was found in an unconscious state. Medical aid was sought, whan it was found that Mitchell was suffering from alcoholic poisoning. All efforta to restore him to consciousness were fruitless, and be wai removed to the hospital, where he died.
