The hay shed at Kohimarama Industrial School, Auckland, was burned down on Sunday morning. There was no insurance. This is the building which was set oe fire a few months ago' when a lad named Duncan was arrested cn a charge of incendiarism but liberated after an enquiry in the police couit. It is stated that the present fire could not be accidental as there is no fire-place in the building or nearer than forty yards. At Arrowtown on Sunday the body of Michael Joseph O’Oallaghan was found in the Cardrona river. Deceased was teacher at the Catholic school, Arrowtown. Early in July William Lindsay, a farmer at Strath Taieri, attempted suicide by discharging a pistol at his bead. While being conveyed to Dunedin hospital he escaped into the bush and was never discovered till Saturday last, when his body was found in a creek a thousand yards from where ho effected his escape. A fire at Clinton yesterday destroyed the Prince of Wales hotel, Lang’s store, the Police Station, and Hunt’s tailor’s shop. The Railway Station had a narrow escape. • Sir J. M. O’Rorke, Mr J. T. Thomson and others, are protesting strongly against the appointment of Mr J. A. Bayley as sheep inspector for the Auckland district. In consequence the appointment has bean deferred,

Timothy Eegan, a farmer, baa been arrested on a charge of stealing goods from tho Centre Bush railway siding, Southland. It has been decided to hold a dog show at Christchurch about the Metropolitan Show time, aod to communicate with fanciers in all parts of the colony asking their assistance.
