INTERPROVINCIAL NEWS.
Legal proceedings are to be token by Messrs Garrett Bros,, of Auckland, in respect to the present bootmakers’ strike. Two test cases, in which Messrs Garrett Bros, claim £2O each from two employees who are amongst those who struck work contrary to the terms of a certain agreement, are to be brought into court. The Colonial Secretary, accompanied by Mr Blair end Mr Ussher, of the Public ’Vorks Department,visited Bead iff Asylum on Wednesday. The probabilities are that an isolating drain at a cost of about £2500 will be recommended for immediate construction.
At the meeting of the Charitable Aid Board at Dunedin it was stated that the benevo'eut trustees paid not less than £3OOO (?) yearly for rent of cottages occupied, many of them by women whose husbands had gone to Melbourne. The trustees decided in do case to pay more than 5s per week for rent.
