CONCERT AT SOUTH RANGITATA.
A concert in aid of the incidental fund of the South Kangitata School took place in the schoolroom on Thursday evening last. The room was comfortably filled. Mr N. Dunlop occupied the chair. In his opening remarks he referred to the difficulty the School Committee had in raising the necesssary funds to carry on with during the year, and explained that the concert was being held in order to augment these funds. He expressed the pleasure he felt at seeing the support the Committee had received, although it was not so large as they expected. This he thought was possibly due to the gathering having been twice postpened on account of bad weather. He also apologised for there not being a piano on which to accompany the singers, and pointed out that the same would have had to be brought from Temuka, which was rather far. The programme was commenced by Mr McCa&kill with a song. Miss Taylor and Mr Binskin also contributed songs, and were followed by Mr E, Winning with another, for which he received an encore. Mr Griffiths, who came next with a recitation, was followed by Miss McLeod with a song. Mr B. Macdonald received an encore for the rendition of his comic song. Miss Andrews was also accorded an encore for her solo, and was followed by Mr Clinch, who had to respond to an encore for his rendering of a comic song. After an interval of ten minutes, Mr Binskin opened the second part of the programme' with a song. Miss McLeod succeeded him, and was followed by Mr McOaskill, wbo had to respond to an encore. A reading by Mr Griffiths was followed by a song by Miss Taylor. An encore was demanded from Mr Clinch, who sang next, and also from Miss Andrews, who succeeded him. Mr B. Macdonald rendered another comic song, and was also encored. Mr Winning, who sang next, was followed by Mr Binskin, who closed the programme with a song. Many of the singers were accompanied on an organ belonging to the Sunday School by Miss Blyth, who managed capitally, considering the unsuitable nature of the instrument for such a purpose. MrEigonialso assisted as accompanist. At the conclusion of the concert Mr
Norton, Chairman of the School Committee, proposed a hearty vote of „ thanks to the performers and assistants generally ; also to the Chairman. , The vote having been duly acknowledged, the national anthem was tung.
The room was then cleared for dancing. Mr A. Bissett made a capital M.C., Mr Figoni supplying the music. Dancing was kept up with great enthusiasm for several h"urs.
