TEMUKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The usual monthly meeting of the Temuka School Committee was held last Tuesday evening. Present Messrs Hayhurst (Chairman), Blyth, Allan, Winning, Gray, and Brown. minutes. The minutes of the previous meeting were read aud confirmed. HEAD MASTER'S EEPOET. The Head Master's report was to the effect that the number on roll was: Boys, 187.4; girls, 148.8 ; total, 336 2. Average attendance: Boys, 139.1; girls, 110.5: total, 249 7. Highest attendance: Boys, 163 ; girls, 133; total, 296. Also stating that several school requisites were required, LEAKAGE A letter was read from the Board of Education, asking the Committee to give an estimate of the cost of repairing the leakage in the infant school. Mr Gray said they had no funds to employ a man to look after it. The Board ought to send their architect to look at it. It was no simple thing. Mr Allan said he thought there was not much wrong. The palines in the dividing fence were broken, and repairs were required to be done at the water closets.

Mr Gray moved —" That the Board be written to, stating that it would be more satisfactory for the Board to send their architect to report re condition of the roof."

Mr Blyth seconded the motion, and it was carried. ABSENT PUPILS. The Chairman said he had seen the police about the absent children. The police recommended that they should be summoned at the end ot the quarter. It was decided to ask Mr Bryars to furnish a list of absent children. SCHOOL EEQTJISITES. It was decided to procure the requisites the Head Master asked for, and the repairs necessary were ordered to be done. DEFATJLTEEB. A list of the children who had not subscribed to the fuel and stationery fund was laid on the table. The total amount unpaid was £9 15s 3d. Mr Brown said that a good many of them ought to be ashamed of themselves. There were a good many of the parents well able to pay. The names ought to be published. Nothing definite was done in it. INSPECTOR'S REPORT.

The inspection report of the Inspector was read and considered at sonje length in Committee, but nothing definite was done. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £5 were passed for pay meat. YISITOBS. Mr "Winning was appointed visitor for the next month. The meeting then adjourned.
