QUESTIONABLE JUDGMENTS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I have for some time troubled myself about a matter of great consideration to the public—viz., the difference between JJP.s and Magistrates. At last my attention was drawn to a case between the Colonial Investment Company and H. P. Jones, when judgment was given for plaintiffs by J.P.s—yet an exactly similar case was decided in Timaru before a Magistrate in favor of defendant. That goes a long way to show what J.P. law is. What can the poor expect when, at the time of choosing theirrepresentatives they will keep their eyes open for muck to be thown in to blind them for the sole purpose of conferring the title of
J.P. on the adherents of the cliques. Cromwell caused a political earthquake in Great Britain, Sodom and Gomorrah we can call to memory, and New Zealand is threatened ; and I am not prepared to say who is the cause, neither would I be surprised at J.P.s meeting the fate of Lot's wife. I be* to call Mr Badham's attention to this. I am willing to assist him gratis.— I am, etc., H. P. Jones. «. •
