THE CORCORAN TESTIMONIAL.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Iu your issue of this day I notice in the report of the Corcoran Testimonial proceedings that you have by some means altered the text of the address-letter in the firet paragraph, and thus given it the appearance of slipshod diction, if not schoolboy-like tautology. Instead of the word " departure" inserted by you, and repeated in the next line, the word in the text is "transfer"—that being the departmental term employed in cases of what might be called exchanging places. The address-letter was carefully indited, so as to answer the purpose of a communication emanating from a sub-committee of the subscribers, on behalf of the people generally, to be sent with ihe presentation to Mr Corcoran in case he could not have obtained leave to receive it in person. Be good enough to rectify the error in your next issue, and oblige,

Yours truly, C. C. McCarthy, Hon. Secretary to the Presentation Committee.

P.S.—The personal pronoun " us " in the same par. has been substituted for them, which stands for "inhabitants."

C. C. McC. Winchester, 18th Sept., 1888.

[ln the copy supplied by Mr McCarthy to our reporter the language is exactly as it appeared in our report, with the exception that " us " is substituted for " them," aa he gays. The copy is in Mr McCarthy's own handwriting, and he must have made the mistake in transcribing it. We have preserved the original, and it can be seen at our office by Mr McCarthy or anyone who doubts this statement. —The Editor.]
