The Supreme Court at Auckland was occupied during the whole of Friday and Saturday in hearing the case McGregor v. the Northern Steamship Company. The action was to recover £877 10s for damages, and there was a counter claim against the plaintiff for damages through the steamer Gairloch not being according to specification. The jury brought in a verdict against the company in the counter claim. Judgment was accordingly given for the amount claimed and costs on the highest scale. Some of the constituents of Mr Withey, member for Newton, Auckland, have got up a petition requesting him to resign. It will probably be presented to him this evening, when he addresses his constituents.
