Mr Randolph Want, solicitor lor New South Wales in London, is forwarding the proposals of Mr Quong Tart regarding the Chinese question to the Chinese ambassador. The Times considers the agitation against the Chinese in Australia merely a political trick.

Sir Julius Vogel considers that it is useless for Australia to depend on the Home authorities for assistance in settling the Chinese question. Washington, Septembers.
Congress has unanimously adopted a Bill providing for tbe absolute exclusion of Chinese from the United States. It is reported that the rejection of the Treaty by the Pekin Government is s ill unconfirmed.
