At the Resident Magistrates Court, Fellding, on Wednesday afternoon,a young roan named William Low was committed to take his trial at the Supreme Court for indecent exposure to young girl*. The i bench adopted this course as they could not iuiict a punishment adequate to the offence. The annual meeting of ih» Christchurch Chamber of Commerce was held on Thurc-! day afternoon, Mr A. Kaye was eiectfd president. A motion was paeaed in favour of the reduction of b ; ds at the London wool sales from £d to £d. The Rev. Dr Hannay, and Mr Lee, representatives from the Congregational Union of England and Wales, arrived at Duoedln by the Tainui on Thursday. This evening they were entertained at a tea meeting, and afterwards addressed. a public meeting, where tbey were warmly received and welcomed. An attempt to float the Kate Tathaaa, stranded near Wairaußar,was unsuccessful, owing to an accident to the pulaometer, Another attempt will be made. The Treasurer of the Auckland Amateur Athletic Club recently left the colony suddenly. An aulit of the year's accounts took plaee recently, and the sum ef £177 was shown to the credit of the dub, but when the auditors applied to the Savings Bank, after the departure of the treasurer, the discovery wasmade that he had diverted almost all the funds of the club to his own use. A criminal prosecution is talked of. At Katkoura the premises of Gal way, watchmaker and, jeweller,: were destroyed by fire at two o'clock en Thursday morning. Nothing bat the safe and its contents were saved, the stock baing entirely destroyed. The insurance eu the latter was £2OO, and oo the building £BS. Taiwhanga apd a number of olh.-r Native chiefs bad an interview with His Excellency the Governor on Thursday fo the purpose of explaining their objection to the Native Bills.
